[Strategy] Strong, yet fun lineups

Was thinking a bit about what makes for a really great lineup, and I think quite alot of it can be found in a play-style that really appeals to the players there. Rather than just blindly picking the best heroes, its important to go with something the team will definately find fun and enjoy playing.

In one -CM game I captained yesterday I was able to outpick the opponents and somehow draft the following team:

Dunno what the clown on the other team was doing to let me get those heroes, but although obviously thats a good lineup which is difficult to play against, its not necessarily where the fun lies for me. My inclination is towards a more ganking style of play and though we won this game quite easily with lane domination and krobelus getting nicely farmed, it was sort of a bit of a boring game I thought.

Though it sort of requires more in the way of team co-ordination, I prefer lineups full of heroes like chen, clockwork, sand king, you get the picture - gankers; where the game is won through out-playing the opponents and picking off heroes through ganks rather than simply farming and pushing towers. I like mobility too, dagger buying heroes really appeal to me, as well as heroes like puck, morphling and qop. Mobile ganking then is what I love and infact there was a game played by ravens not very long ago which pretty much epitomised this style, with a lineup of the following:

If anything, that must have been fun to play... ganking heroes, able to move around the map quickly and with a nice bit of late-game too to fall back on.

My team has a habit of liking carries slightly too much, heading towards almost a TeG-esque style of play, but I can forgive them for that as long as we're allowed to take some sort of ganky stuff.

One of the most fun lineups I've probably ever played was in a -CD mode game, naturally with the smaller pool of heroes its gonna produce opportunities for going a bit crazy with the picks, and this was what I drafted out:

I got to play the meepo, one of my favourite heroes, whilst the other players on my team also got heroes that they find particularly fun (with the exception perhaps of the warlock), but altogether this was great and left me wondering why I don't play -CD more often.

My question to anyone reading this:
Whats a hero lineup that you've really enjoyed playing in the past, or are there any interesting lineups you've thought about but haven't had the chance to play yet?

Please leave a comment :D

  2. In pick-league this week we played a very ganky-lineup along the lines of what I posted was fun to play - clockwerk, potm, rhasta, sk, puck. I've gotta say, it really was fun to play, one of the best times ganking i've had in a while :D
