However it doesnt have to be the case that certain heroes are restricted to specific roles that they should always play, it depends entirely on the lineup you've chosen. Sometimes you may pick a team with no "natural" ward-buyer, but you can still happily designate heroes to warding regardless of whether they might be farming in a different lineup.
This is me just having a bit of a rant really because we were playing a match yesterday with a player who was a friend of a friend, i.e. we never really played much with him before. I was picking the lineup, and getting towards my last picks he asked who was gonna buy wards, I said rhasta would be the ward buyer of the team, and he didn't seem too happy about that, apparently "rhasta needs some farm".
- I understand that Rhasta *can* be played in a way that allows him to farm up some gold for aghanims, etc, and yes that can be an effective use of him.
- He doesnt *have* to do that - he can still be used as an item independant hero to be a strong lane partner, disable heroes, and use his ulti to down towers, allowing his gold to be spent on wards.
The same goes for other heroes too, yes puck and zeus solo well, but you can still happily utilise them as the ward buyer for the team if you need to.
It can go the other way too, if a vengeful is picked, you'd expect it to go 100% wards. However that doesnt mean that has to be venge's job every game, you could quite conceivably draft a lineup with a different support hero, allowing venge to make use of her damage aura and go for some dps - you just dont really see it happening because shes such a good item independant roaming ganker.
It just annoys me that people label heroes as being of one particular type, when in actual fact they can have many different uses.
/end rant
