Hmmm, so after having seen Maelk fail to use potm effectively against fnatic in the GamesCom finals I got wondering about why teams seem so intent on picking potm at every opportunity, regardless of whether or not its gonna be played by someone whose going to properly utilise her to her full potential.
Because she is picked so often its just silly, and yet for some reason no-one ever wants to ban her - obviously she can't be that game breaking, and yet needs to be picked every time?
Well, I decided that I was gonna have a bit of a rant and say that she shouldn't be picked as often as she is, and back it up with some statistics. So I looked at the GamesCom replays and she was picked 12 times out of 14 matches, and of those 12 she lost 4 and won 8. So with a 66% win ratio, I guess I'm massively wrong - teams are right to keep picking her :D
Of course its such a small sample that you can't really use it as a proper statistical test, but it is suprising how many times she was on the winning team at GamesCom.
The thing is, potm can pretty much fit into any lineup you want, she can take a solo lane or play a strong dual lane, she can roam around ganking or take more of a carry role and farm. Her early game nuking damage is very nice, and later on she exploits her dps potential. Her ultimate is decent for initiating ganks, and equally helping team-mates to escape, and leap is an awesome escape and chasing skill. With the ganking playstyle, she just fits into dota perfectly at the moment, but doesn't quite make it into the realm of "imba", she is perhaps what people would call a very balanced hero, yet also very strong in the right hands.
I think the reason I get a bit annoyed by potm being picked all the time is that everyone and his mum seems to think that they're really good at playing her. Makes it a bit disappointing in lower-level clan matches when the potm just isnt as good as perhaps she should be. I think people need make sure they can use her a bit more effectively before blindly first-picking her for their lineups, though obviously she really can be deadly.
